The Flanders Marine Institute VLIZ heavily stakes on web applications, thus enhancing the visibility of marine reserach results.

One of the main missions of the VLIZ is to promote the multidisciplinary and high quality marine and coastal research of Flanders and surroundings. We do this, among others, through the world wide web. Hereby our marine scientists get a push in the right direction, as seems form the latest ranking by ‘Webometrics’.

This initiative of the Spanish CSIC-Cybermetrics Lab measures how institutes use the web to enhance the visibility of the research results of their reserachers. From the more than 5000 screened scientific institutes worldwide, VLIZ is ranked 237th. It is at the lead in the Belgian list and at the 110th position as far as it concerns European institutes.
