Attracted by the sea and interested to learn something about the seawater, the beaches and groynes, the adjacent coastal strip, its animals, plants, uses and pollution and much more? If so you have found the right place!

On this website you can find the ‘Information desk for marine and coastal affairs’, which helps you with hundreds of interesting questions on the sea and their answers or to download short films, pictures and drawings free of charge.

On the website you can also consult interesting articles, retrieve data on the weather, tides and waves, learn about the dangers of the sea or find out who performs what marine research in Flanders.

We are also constantly looking for the meaning and etymology of marine terms (in Dutch) and put our best foot forward towards education as well.

You are furthermore always welcome to visit the largest public marine library in Belgium and to look things up during office hours!
