Hundreds of marine stamps online!
Added on 2009-05-04 12:09:15

The media gallery of VLIZ has a new item: the collecion 'Marine stamps’: a remarkable acquisition of more than 2,100 stamps depicting divers marine and maritime themes in an online archive.

Stimulated by the active philatelist Georges Declercq, specialised in collecting stamps from all over the world with images of (marine) animals, the VLIZ launched a new photo gallery of stamps depicting marine and maritime themes. There are currently already more than 2,100 stamps with marine organisms online, mainly fish and molluscs, but also including arthropods, marine reptiles, seabirds, marine mammals and other groups. For each of the displayed organisms a link is provided to the correct scientific name and other taxonomic information.

The collection ‘Marine stamps’ does not want to be limited to images of marine organisms. Also other marine and maritme themes are welcomed! We started already folders on light houses, ships, fisheries, beach & recreation, explorers, harbours & marine constructions.

Are you an (ex)-philatelist willing to share your marine and/or maritime stamp collection? Or do you know someone willing to do this? Please, contact VLIZ (info@vliz.be or + 32 59 34 01 30) to discuss the possibilities without engagement.
