Aan de hand van materiaal afkomstig van de streek van Boulogne (Pas-de-Calais, Frankrijk) worden de procarpstrukturen en hun ontwikkeling tot gonimoblasten besproken van enkele genera behorend tot de Ceramiales : Aglaothamnion, Callithamnion, Ceramium, Griffithsia, Spermothamnion, Hypoglossum, Polyneura, Polysiphonia.
