General Assembly

The General Assembly is currently composed as follows:

• Chairman of the General Assembly is Mr Carl Decaluwé, governor of West Flanders
• The ten members appointed by the Flemish Community who are entitled to vote are:

• Prof Dr Willy Baeyens, Free University of Brussels
• Prof Dr Jean Berlamont, Catholic University of Leuven
• Prof Dr Ernest Schockaert, Hasselt University
• Prof Dr René Van Grieken, University of Antwerp
• Prof Dr Magda Vincx, Ghent University
• Mr Philip Van Avermaet, department Economy, Science and Innovation
• Ms Ulrike Vanhessche, secretariat Coast Gaurd (agency for Maritime Services and Coast)
• Ms Ilse Hoet, department Mobility and Public Works
• Eng Jan Strubbe, adminsitration Waterways and Marine Affairs
• The four members appointed by the Province of West Flanders who are entitled to vote are:
• Mr Guido Decorte, member of the Provincial Executive
• Mr Bart Naeyaert, member of the Provincial Executive
• Mr Patrick Braet, Provincial Treasurer
• Mr Jan Denys, manager of the Maritime Institute Mercator
• The member appointed by the Research Foundation - Flanders (FWO) is:
  • Dr Eng Elisabeth Monard, secretary general of the Research Foundation - Flanders

• The members of the Board of Directors of the VLIZ have the right to attend the General Assembly with an advisory vote.
