Award ceremony Dr Edouard Delcroix Prize - CANCELLED

Due to the Coronavirus COVID-19 episode, the SOPHIE conference in Brussels is canceled. Therefore, the presentation of the prize Dr. Edouard Delcroix does not take place on 30 March 2020.

The Dr. Edouard Delcroix Prize is a triennial international scientific prize, awarded to an individual researcher or research team for studies on the relationship between the ocean and human health. At the same time, the Dr. Edouard Delcroix Incentive Award is presented to an early career scientist for his or her creditable work within this theme. The award ceremony for the Prize Dr. Edouard Delcroix edition 2019 takes place on 30 March 2020 in Brussels as the closing event of the international conference People, Health and the Ocean.

The prestigious Prize Dr. Edouard Delcroix with a value of EUR 25.000 and the incentive award with a value of EUR 2.500 is established in honor of Dr. Edouard Delcroix (1891-1973), a Belgian orthopedic surgeon and pioneer in thalassotherapy. The coordination is in the hands of the non-profit organization HYDRO and the Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ).

The award ceremony for the Dr. Prize. Eduard Delcroix edition 2019 is part of the international People, Health and the Ocean Conference, taking place on 30 March in the Royal Flemish Academy of Belgium for Sciences and Arts (KVAB) in Brussels. At this final conference of the Horizon 2020 project SOPHIE – Sea, ocean and public health in Europe – an international community is gathering to discuss recent research results on the link between the ocean and public health. They work on themes such as: food from the ocean, blue tourism and well-being, and marine biodiversity in medical and biotechnological applications.
