VLIZ Marine Science Day 2020 - CANCELLED

We are very sad to announce that the VLIZ Marine Science Day of next Wednesday, 18 March 2020, has to be cancelled due to the Coronavirus COVID-19 episode.

We want to thank the 500+ staff and participants that have invested a lot of energy in this event. We will finalize and publish the book of abstracts and will communicate about the awards. Announcement of the next edition of the VLIZ Marine Science Day will follow.

The 20th edition of the VLIZ Marine Science Day promises to be a special edition. In 2020, VLIZ celebrates its 20th anniversary with the central theme being VLIZ breaks boundaries. For this 20th edition we expect extra participants and are moving with the # VMSD20 to another location: CC De Grote Post in Oostende. For this festive edition, the program receives a thorough makeover. For the first time, we supplement the plenary program with 10 parallel break-out sessions. For all tastes! More than ever #VMSD20 will be an unmissable feast for the marine professional and student, full of opportunities to interact with like-minded and the ideal opportunity to expand your network!

Interactive sessions

In addition to the classical plenary keynotes and pre-doc presentations, we offer all participants the opportunity to share their research and ideas during one of the 10 interactive sessions. Information on the available sessions can be found on the programme section of the VMSD website.

You still can submit an idea for the interactive sessions Sea-nema and the Cool Ocean Tool Speakers Corner until 16 February 2020.

  • Sea-nema: Do you have footage/video material of inspiring historical or present ocean (science) activities or phenomena? Don’t hesitate to pitch your idea here or to contact Fons Verheyde for more information.
  • Speakers Corner on Cool Ocean Tools: Do you have innovative tools or apps, beach finds, remarkable contemporary or historical objects… with an interesting story? Submit your Cool Ocean Tool here or contact Nancy Fockedey for more information.

Marine and maritime companies can introduce themselves at the Meet the Company side event High Tea with Sea Companies. For this you send an email to karen.rappe@vliz.be, after which we will contact you to see the possibilities.
