Notes:
On behalf of the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea, the Finnish Game and Fisheries Research Institute, and the Finnish Institute of Marine Research, we are honoured to invite you to Helsinki for the ICES Annual Science Conference 2007.

We, the ICES Secretariat, with the Finnish Game and Fisheries Research Institute, and the Finnish Institute of Marine Research as local hosts, shall do our very best to provide optimal conditions for an inspiring scientific event, and we are confident that the Marine Congress Centre and Helsinki itself will offer a unique location for friends and colleagues to interact.

This year’s ASC promises to provide outstanding main papers from world renowned researchers presented in 18 science theme sessions on topics which include the ecosystem approach to management with a special focus on the Baltic Sea, structure and dynamics of the benthos in ICES waters, and marine biodiversity from a fish and fisheries perspective. The ASC will address some of the most challenging issues of today’s science needed for a better management of our seas tomorrow.

Helsinki, the capital of Finland is an important meeting place and trading centre in northern Europe. The venue of the conference will be the Marina Congress Centre, a perfectly equipped meeting centre within walking distance from the city centre. We, the organizers, will do our utmost to make you feel at home and to ensure that you depart with pleasant memories of an outstanding place to meet and work. In particular, we hope that you will draw inspiration from an extraordinarily high level of marine science. The latter is, of course, very dependent on the many important contributions from you and your colleagues. We look forward to receiving your contributions and to welcoming you to Helsinki in September 2007.

The social programme planned by the organizing committee will give you a chance to become acquainted with Helsinki, Finland´s political, cultural and financial capital, home to more than half a million people, with its wonderful surroundings of the Baltic Sea and shores.

We look forward to greeting you in Helsinki in September.
