Description
The dataset contains abundance and biomass data of four species of gelatinous zooplankton (Mnemiopsis leidyi, Beroe ovata, Aurelia aurita, Pleurobrachia pileus) obtained in October 2005 and October - November 2010 (32 stations in October 2005 and 98 stations in October - November 2010) in the Northwestern Black Sea.

Scope
Themes:
Biology > Invertebrates, Biology > Zooplankton
Keywords:
Marine, MED, Black Sea, Aurelia aurita (Linnaeus, 1758), Beroe ovata Bruguière, 1789, Mnemiopsis leidyi (Agassiz, 1865), Pleurobrachia pileus (O.F. Müller, 1776)

Geographical coverage
MED, Black Sea [Marine Regions]

Temporal coverage
6 October 2005 - 12 November 2010

Taxonomic coverage
Aurelia aurita (Linnaeus, 1758) [WoRMS]
Beroe ovata Bruguière, 1789 [WoRMS]
Mnemiopsis leidyi A. Agassiz, 1865 [WoRMS]
Pleurobrachia pileus (O. F. Müller, 1776) [WoRMS]

Parameters
Abundance Methodology , Biomass Methodology
Abundance: Conical plankton net
Samples were taken using a Conical plankton net with a Net mouth opening of 0.8 m and a mesh size of 500 μm.
Hauls were taken either from the bottom depth or from the depth which corresponds to a sigma-theta density value of 16,2.
Animals were sorted, counted and measured on board. Individual weights were calculated from the wet weight-length equations.
