Overview of vegetation and associated soil physicochemical properties in the Zwin. The data were digitized by VLIZ from the original report: Van den Balck, E. (1994). This study describes the vegetation of tidal marshes and transitional areas in the Zwin. A soil survey was done to determine the soil texture, pH, salinity, nitrogen and organic carbon content, compaction and root density per horizon). Two transects of 55 and 21 surveys (opnamen) were analyzed: a total of 59 plant species were observed. TWINSPAN analysis divided data in 18 clusters. Species (combinations) and corresponding associations in these 18 clusters were Salicornia europaea, Suaeda maritima, Halimione portulacoides, Puccinellia maritima, Plantago maritima and Limonium vulgare, Armeria maritima, Juncus gerardii, Agrostis stolonifera and Trifolium fragiferum, Juncus maritimus and Oenanthe lachenalii, Phragmites australis and Scirpus maritimus, Elymus athericus and Atriplex littoralis, and Atriplex littoralis vegetation.
