Description
World seas represents the boundaries for the major oceans and seas of the world. The source for the boundaries is the publication 'Limits of Oceans & Seas, Special Publication No. 23' published by the IHO in 1953. more

The dataset was made in VLIZ for use in the gazetteer.
Process description:
1) Making of a waterbackground: based on the World Countries 2004 dataset was a waterbackground made. This is one polygon that contains all the ocean and sea features of the world. Process software and version: ArcView Gis 3.2, ArcView 9 Source used: World Countries 2004
2) Making the single features: based on the 'Limits of Oceans and Seas', the waterbackground was subdivided in individual features for each ocean or sea. Process software and version: ArcView Gis 3.2, ArcView 9 Source used: IHO
