This dataset results out of the study into ecotoxicological evaluation of the effects of endocrine disrupting substances occurring in the Scheldt estuary on resident mysid shrimp populations (laboratory and field studies). more

The data results from a number of lab tests. To evaluate the possible effects of the pollutants on mysid shrimp, acute and chronic test will be performed in the laboratory. Different endpoints to study endocrine disruption are metabolism, reproduction, vitellogenesis and moulting.

Growth factor Methodology , Growth rate Methodology , Mysid energy metabolism Methodology , Mysid intermoult period Methodology , Mysid testosteron metabolism Methodology , Mysid vitelline concentration Methodology
Growth factor: Moulting measuring protocol growth factor
and the increase in length at each molting event (the growth factor, GF in % of the pre-molt length)
Growth rate: Moulting measuring protocol growth rate
length incresase (growth rate, µm/day) during IMPs
Mysid energy metabolism: Cellular Energy Allocation
The energy allocation of the estuarine mysid Neomysis integer were investigated using the cellular energy allocation assay (CEA), energy reserves (protein, lipid and sugar) and energy consumption (as derived from the cellular respiration rate) were integrated into a general indicator of physiological stress. Adult Neomysis integer specimens were sorted out on board, sex was not taken into account and no selection was made to avoid gravid females. The collected mysids were shock-frozen in liqui
Mysid intermoult period: Moulting measuring protocol intermoult period
time (days) between two successive molts (intermolt period; IMP)
Mysid testosteron metabolism: LCMS testosteron
In vivo exposure to testosterone: Juvenile Neomysis integer were taken from the different samplingsites during the campaigns of March and June and individually placed into 5 ml glass recipients containing 2 ml water (5 PSU). Two micrograms of testosterone dissolved in 10 µl methanol was added to the recipient and a 6 h exposure period was applied. Extraction and LC-MSn analysis of testosterone metabolites and endogenous steroids: N. integer were isolated from the exposure medium, shock-
Mysid vitelline concentration: Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA)
-Vitellin purification (gel filtration) -polyclonal anitbody production against vitellin -development of ELISA protocol
