Description
The Oceanological Observatory of Villefranche-sur-Mer (OOV) and the Villefranche-sur-Mer Laboratory (LOV) have one of the largest databases of plankton images. Abundance, size and biomass of estimated zooplankton following collection by surface-bottom nets (3 nets are used, WP2, Regent and Juday Bogorov). Collection is daily and the samples are collected in pots by net each week. The sampling station is at the entrance of the harbor at the SOMLIT point. The plankton images were obtained by various high-throughput imaging instruments developed in the laboratory for two of them (UVP and Zooscan). These instruments, their software, data quality control will serve as the basis for the future of operational biological oceanography.
