Portius is the world's first academic centre to specialise in the study of the law of ports and harbours. Port law is essential to the functioning of both maritime and inland ports, traditional gateways to global trade. In a fascinating way, port law combines port-related aspects of maritime and transport law, international law of the sea, public law, economic law, labour law, environmental law and various other branches of the law.
Portius is an independent educational institution supported by, among others, Ghent University, the College of Europe in Bruges and the port authorities of Ghent and Zeebrugge. It is also an international and EU network of port law academics and practitioners. |
