Abstract:
The Department of Civil Engineering is an integrated part of the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture at Ghent University, Belgium. The current head of department is Prof. Peter Troch. And the department is spread over 5 research units, and one of them is ‘Geotechnics Laboratory’ (formerly Laboratory of Soil Mechanics). The current interests of the Geotechnics Laboratory are amongst others offshore foundations, shallow and deep foundations and hydraulic barriers for environmental applications. Research topics are closely linked to daily geotechnical problems such as slope stability, shallow and deep (offshore) foundations, and this research group has extended its interest fields towards basic soil parameter experimental research, calibration chamber testing, soil dynamics with related geophysical testing and very profoundly to environmental geotechnics.
