Dr Ahyong, Shane

Shane Ahyong is a Principal Research Scientist & Manager of Marine Invertebrates at the Australian Museum, Sydney. He is a long-time editor and promotor of WoRMS, responsible for three groups of Crustacea: Stomatopoda, Brachyura Lithodoidea and Polychelia. He has a distinguished 20-year career as a crustacean taxonomist with over 120 published papers and book chapters. Many are substantial revisions especially of groups such as mantis shrimps, squat lobsters and crabs. He maintains a strong interest in the biology of introduced species and how taxonomy serves this discipline. He maintains strong local and international collaborations and is supervisor of several post-graduate students. Shane was a co-editor of The biology of squat lobsters (CSIRO Publishing, 2011) winner of the 2012 Whitley Book Award. He was president of The Crustacean Society (2013–2014) and is an editor for Zootaxa.
