Molecular Genetics as a tool for the management of marine ornamentals in Sulawesi (Indonesia)

This research project aims to provide genetic data as basis for the spatial arrangement of marine protected areas. These areas serve as a source of larvae and recruits and can be regarded as “stepping stones” for disturbed coastal ecosystems,
such as coral reefs.
Therefore, gene flow (= larval dispersal = connectivity) between populations of different marine ornamentals, such as clownfish, giant clams, and starfish, will be studied across the Indonesian archipelago.
