Abstract |
The sedating, desiccating and deodorizing properties of artificially generated negative ions are of great value in treatment of burns of all degrees. This modality, employed in addition to other established therapeutic methods, reduces substantially the amount of secretion and the number of infections. The fetid odor usually accompanying severe burns is completely controlled. In all hospitalized patients the open air method without any dressings or local applications was used throughout this series. The patients were comfortable and most cooperative. The inhalation seances, limited to 30 to 40 minutes, were given repeatedly during the day. With rare exceptions there was no need for pain relieving medication. No untoward symptoms were observed. This method is especially suitable for treatment of victims of a mass disaster. |
