Abstract
    The decisive element for the determination of the evolution of the hydrographic network in the eastern part of the Vistula Delta were the changes introduced by man in historical times. The modern system of the hydrographic network of the Vistula Delta does not differ considerably from the one that was shaped during the intensified interference of man into water relationships, i.e. till the end of the 19th century. The long lasting and varying anthropopressure resulted in the fact that relatively natural processes occur only in the main channel of the River Vistula, while in the whole remaining area water relationships have been shaped by man and are under human control.
