Abstract |
The sandy Mediterranean shore of Israel was surveyed for G. Sanctus between June and Aug 1967. All specimens found were on the littoral zone of sandy beaches, open to wave action and of low inclination. A detailed investigation was performed on the most densely populated beach, Bat-Yam. G. Sanctus was distributed discontinuously in patches ranging from a few meters to tens of meters wide. Microdistribution showed G. Sanctus to be continuous, fluctuating parallel to the water line. There was a significant horizontal zonation along the shoreline, of which the maximum density field forms a narrow line parallel to the water line and shifted towards the shore. |
