Abstract
HTDB/US (Historical Tsunami Database for the US Pacific coast) is the interactive PC-based database management system intended for visualization and handeling of historical tsunami data. It is written on C++ language and runs under MS-DOS (version 6.22) on IBM PCs and compatibles. The basic functions of the system are as follow:-selection of a working area on the Pacific-wide map and its zooming to an arbitrary spatial scale;- construction of a raster (3D shaded relief) and/or vector (land contours, rivers and lakes, state boundaries) background map of the selected area;-display of additional information on the resulted map (geographical grid, legends, data notations and comments);-search and retrieval from the database of historical seismic and tsunami data by number of criteria and their overlay on the user-made background map;-saving the resulted user-made map in .GIF format for further editing and printing from any commercial graphic editor;-some additional functions provided by HTDB/US include reading of geographical coordinates and elevation/depth values at any point of working area, calculation of distance and azimuth between two points, plotting the vertical cross-section of bottom and land relief along the selected contour.
