Abstract
The objective of this work is to describe the external and internal structures of theclaspers of four species of Squalidae: Etmopterus granulosus, Deania calcea,Centroscymnus crepidater and Centroscymnus macracanthus, captured in theValdivia coast, Chile. The clasper of E. granulosus is composed by of 4 basal and3 axial elements, and a terminal group with 6 external and 5 internal components;D. calcea has the claspers composed by 3 basal and 3 axial cartilages, and theterminal group with 2 external and 2 internal elements; C. crepidater and C.macracanthus have the claspers composed by 3 basal and 3 axial cartilages, andthe terminal group with 7 external and 4 internal elements. In these species there isan intergeneric structural variation related to the shape and number of components. The claspers in the two species of Centroscymnus are very similar.
