| Abstract |
The presence of three important seaports in full expansion has aroused an increasing interest of the Belgian and Flemish authorities in the behaviour of ships in shallow and confined waters. As a matter of fact, an optimal use of existing and projected waterways is an absolute necessity, taking account of the growing international competition and restricted public funds. On the other hand, the safety of shipping traffic must be guaranteed under all circumstances, so that a scientifical approach is required. |
