Abstract
This paper presents a new approach to the analysis of the performance of purse seine fishing gear using a computer simulation. For dynamic simulation, the equation of motion was used to model the shape and movement of the fishing gear as it moved through space during the operations of shooting and pursing. First, a mass-spring model was applied and the equation of motion was described. Second, we developed a simulation tool that can automatically generate a mathematical model from a gear-design drawing. Third, an implicit method for solving nonlinear equations was applied to the calculation. Fourth, the accuracy of the mathematical model used in the simulation was verified by comparing measured and calculated data. Finally, simulations were made using gear rigged in various ways.
