Abstract
After the February 1990 storm, which occurred during a high spring tide, all the dunes of the Ille-et- Vilaine coast retreated by several metres in 24 hours. These dunes had just been reconstrUcted during the five previous years and were still under artificial protection. Firstly this paper studies the dynamiC since 1948, the sedimentary balance and the efficiency of the recent 'ganivelles'; secondly the spatial extension of the sedimentary system and the cost of protection are compared with the requirements of tourist planning and local agriculture.
