Abstract
Yellow eels (Anguilla anguilla) containing relatively high concentrations of PCBs, chlorobenzenes, and octachlorostyrene were transferred from the river Rhine (The Netherlands) to a relatively clean lake in order to study elimination of the organochlorine compounds. In contrast with other studies carried out under laboratory conditions, elimination half-lives were found to be in the order of years. For the higher chlorinated CBs, no elimination was observed at all during an 8-year period.
