Abstract
Initial investigations on silt samples from the Oosterschelde, a shellfish-growing area in the southwest part of the Netherlands, revealed small amounts of dinoflagellate cysts. Very few of the dark brown cysts of Diplopeltopsis minor were observed, even though the motile stage of this species occurs in June every year. Cysts of the genus Polykrikos were present only rarely, Polykrikos schwartzii being a scarce species in June 1972 and June 1978.
