Abstract
The food composition of 5 commercially important flatfish species (Pleuronectiformes: turbot, brill, plaice, dab, sole) inhabiting the southern North Sea is given. During their growth there is a shift in food preference, whereby postlarval stages feed rather uniformly on meiofauna. The differences in preference between the investigated species is most outspoken when juveniles and adults are compared.
