Abstract
Tidal migration of 0 and I-group plaice is described as it occurs on the Balgzand. On this system of sandy flats in the western part of the Wadden Sea almost the entire population of young plaice moves with the tides onto the flats and back to the surrounding channels. The material suggests that these movements are pure feeding-migrations, since the stomachs of the fish become gradually filled during their stay on the flats. During a certain period of the tidal cycle the distribution of young plaice over the flats seems to be aselect, which offers an opportunity to obtain reliable estimates of plaice present in the Wadden Sea.
