Abstract
It is shown that the form of the subaqueous profile determines the value of wave induced bottom stress, if energy loss by bottom friction is taken into account. It is possible to define such a profile that the bottom stress has a constant value in each point. Other profiles may deviate from this critical form being less concave to convex or more concave. In the first case the bottom stress attains a maximum value somewhere on the profile, in the latter case a minimum one.
