Abstract
    This article describes the longitudinal profile and alignment of the Seine-Nord Europe Canal. It indicates the main constraints that faced the designers in optimising earthworks, discusses the canal alignment and the main characteristics of the reaches (location, length, main items of equipment), gives a geological description of the soils and the earthworks balance. Finally, it puts forward recommendations for continuing with project optimisation.
