Abstract
During a 28 month period (February 1978 to May 1980) dissolved organic carbon (DOC) was measured in the Ems-Dollart estuary. The concentrations of dissolved organic carbon were found to vary between 0,4 and 15,6 mg C.l-1. From the linearity of the inverse relation between dissolved organic carbon and salinity it is concluded that the dissolved organic carbon present is allochtonous and is biologically inactive.
