Abstract
Plankton production and the sedimentation of organic matter were studied off the Tvärminne archipelago during the ice-free period from April to December 1979. The primary sedimentation was ca 19 C g.m-2.a-1 making up about 25% of the phytoplankton annual production. During the annual phytoplankton production maximum in spring ca 40% of the production was sedimented. During the rest of the growing period most of the produced matter was decomposed in the water phase.
