Abstract
The present study was undertaken with a view to establish the spawning season of the European flat oyster and the relation between the development of the gonads and the environmental quality of the Mar Menor lagoon. From February to October 1986 histological sections of the dry weight condition index were studied periodically. The environmental parameters temperature and chlorophyll-a were recorded. Spawning is initiated at the beginning of April and ends in late August with a maximum in June. The maximum value of the dry weight condition index was reached between March and June.
