Abstract
CTD data obtained in the summer of 1983 in the seas between Iceland and Scotland are analyzed. By means of water mass analysis and isopycnal analysis the exchange and mixing of watertypes between the Iceland Basin and the Norwegian Sea is studied. The role of the observed intermediate water types in the recent freshening of the deep waters in the north east Atlantic Ocean is discussed.
