Abstract
It is argued that the study of recruitment in flatfish might benefit from a more systems-oriented approach, combining both hydrodynamical and ecological models. The suggestion is made to use a conceptual model such as the ecophysiological framework presented. However, such a systems-oriented approach can only be succesful if at the same time existing datasets can be identified for calibration and validation of the model(s).
