Abstract
This study examined the epinephrine (EPI)-induced changes in second messengers of hepatocytes isolated from two teleost fishes, the american eel Anguilla rostrataand the black bullhead Ictalurus melas. EPI at 10 µM stimulated the production of cAMP were greater than those for IP 3. Specific binding of 3 H-prazosin by purified hepatic membranes fits in with the existence of alfa 1-adrenoceptors on liver membranes from both species. These data support a role for both signal transduction pathways in the mode of action of EPI on fish liver cells.
