Abstract
After the summer and during the winter of 1988 millions of young cockles Cerastoderma edule were found washed up on the Belgian beaches. This species, once a common appearance now knew difficult times, and in some years even became quite rare. During 1998 Cerastoderma edule became rather common again. There were 2 spatfalls, one in early summer and one in the last half of August.
