Abstract
Atrial natriuretic peptide-like immunoreactivity (ANP-like IR) was shown in the testis of Bufo marinus, in the head of mature spermatozoa attached to Sertoli cells, interstitial tissue and seminiferous tubules. After spermiation induced by human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG), testicular spermatozoa failed to show IR. ANP binding sites were localized and characterized in testis of Bufo marinus by quantitative in vitro autoradiography using (125I)-ratANP (99-126). Specific ANP binding demonstrated positive cooperativity. The data suggest a new biological function of ANP in reproduction of male amphibians.
