Abstract
In Italy within populations of the 3-spined stickle-back (Gasterosteus aculeatus) there occurs a Hb polymorphism, restricted to a geographical region (coasts of northern and central Adriatic sea) characterized by brackish-waters of estuaries, lagoons, canals and Valli. This polymorphism, in which a single allele is involved, is somehow linked to the anadromous migratory ecology of populations living in this habitat. In contrast stantial freshwater populations are monomorphic.
