Abstract
Cellular heterogeneity has been described for several pituitary cell types. In the present study we have demonstrated that, in the pituitary of the ageing male rat, two subpopulations of growh hormone (GH)-producing cells occur that differ in morphological, molecular and functional aspects. These results may provide a cellular basis to the understanding of changes in GH through ageing.
