| Abstract |
An analysis is presented of the evolutionary tendency of various petroleum hydrocarbon inputs to the ocean, This Is based on budgets of the oil pollution of the ocean carried out by the US Academy of Sciences and published in 1975, 1985 and 2003. A clear tendency to the decrease of various inputs Is observed, with best estimates of 6.1, 3.2 and 1.3 millions of tonnes annually, respectively. Some inputs such as natural seeps remain difficult to budget The Mediterranean Sea, semi-enclosed, representing 1 % of the ocean surface and 20% of the worldwide oil traffic. Is one of the oceanic areas submitted to high maritime pressures together with inputs of pyrolytic origin from industrialized Northern Europe. The comparison of data from the 1980's and 2000's shows a clear decreasing tendency, with the following estimates ; 0.88 and 0.04 million of tonnes, respectively |
