Abstract
This book is a collection of references, old and new, to the decorative and practical ways in which the large bones of the big whales have been used in these four countries, from early times to the present day. The entries are based on extracts from over 400 printed sources, the recollections of many individuals, and the author's own observations. Over 150 locations are listed, each one personally visited by the author. There are detailed appendices, an extensive bibliography, and over 250 illustrations. This is the second volume in a series that is planned to cover all the whale bone monuments in Europe.
