Abstract
A description is given of the population of Gobius niger, a fish new to the Dutch fauna, which established itself in the brackish Veerse Meer in the delta area of the SW Netherlands. Some morphologic features of the population are compared with those of populations elsewhere. Notes on feeding and reproduction are added. The growth of some year classes is described. In the Veerse Meer 5 year classes were found together. A description is given of changes in composition and diversity of the fish fauna of the area before and after enclosure of the lake, at first appearance of G. niger and after establishment of a large population.
