Abstract
This report contains the different courses of the training programme and outlines the Kenyan-Dutch cooperation in marine siences. The most extensive Dutch cooperation programme in marine science in the last decade was the Snellius-II programme (1982-1987) with Indonesia. In 1982 the Dutch government initiated this five year programme in marine science with the Indonesian government. The Snellius-II Programme was successful and brought Dutch and Indonesian marine science into the limelight of the international research community. The Snellius-II approach, translating into the transfer of knowledge and the development of infrastructure by the execution of a joint research effort, is internationally recognized as an effective management tool for sustainable development. The new Dutch marine science cooperation programmes with Indonesia, Kenya and Pakistan will be based on the Snellius experience.
