Abstract
This paper presents a series of documentary accounts of abnormal sea surface changes that have affected the coastline of SW England during historic times. An attempt is made to consider possible origins for individual events although it is recognised that certain episodes of coastal flooding appear to have no simple explanation. However, certain coastal floods appear to have been generated by tsunamis triggered by far-field offshore earthquakes.
