Abstract
A geological study of the island of Miiseri (Dahlak Archipelago, southern Red Sea) showed that this island, as well as almost the entire archipelago, is built of the Upper Pleistocene Entedebir Formation, covered in places by a thin coat of younger sediments. It was found that the islands and troughs of the archipelago were formed some 17000 years B.C. when the formation was faulted into a pattern of up- and downthrown blocks. The faults are arranged in two main systems, the one trending east-west which is approximately parallel to the Gulf of Aden, and the other trending N30°W — S30°E, and approximately parallel to the Red Sea.
