Abstract
We explored the use of a scanner to digitize portions of benthic macroinvertebrate samples and save them as high resolution images. The results of different scanning resolution, image format files, and compression options are presented. This procedure allows family and generic identification and storage and retrieval of information at a very useful level in general environmental studies. Additional information such as body lengths and biomasses can be easily gathered with this new methodology.
