Abstract
Since a long time this is the first comprehensive book on Antarctic Mollusca. The molluscan diversity in Antarctic waters is particularly large. Bivalvia are represented by 24 different families, comprising 40 genera and over 87 species. The Gastropoda are represented with 49 families, divided over 130 genera with 336 known species. All these species are illustrated in Shells of Antarctica. Large quantities of Mollusca from different Polarstern Expeditions were studied during the compilation of Shells of Antarctica. If possible, figures of type specimens are shown. In many cases this type material have never been illustrated before.
