Abstract
Formerly known as Mogador, Essaouira was the first sardine fishing port in the world. Today the fish have left its waters. Thousands of small Moroccan fishermen from Essaouira, Safi and Agadir have to move further down south to Dakhla in the Sahara to hope to catch some fish. Then, starts a hellish struggle. In the background, trawlers from foreign countries drag the waters with their death nets, killing an entire ecosystem. In the foreground, captivating portraits of desperate fishermen who've been robbed of their livelihood. Who shares the responsibility for this death sentence?
